The millions of advertisement billboards in Mongkok display the uniqueness and diversities of the place. Walking along the Argyle Street, the main road of Mongkok, thousands of millions of colourful commercials catch our eyesight immediately. These advertisements are large in size and located on walls of buildings that can draw our attention easily. Most of them are written in Chinese as their major target is local people. Nevertheless, we can see some international brand names' advertisements in English with ease.

In the evening after dark, you can see the shop signs lit up in all kinds of neon lights in Chinese, English, Japanese, and so on. In a vivid and attractive manner, messages are delivered to audiences. Portland Street is the best-known red-light district in Hong Kong. There, underneath a dizzying and chaotic array of neon signs, numbers of prostitutes are serving in night clubs, massage parlours, karaoke and hostess bars. We can see many advertisement billboards with very sharp colour in the area. Take some special examples to exmine. The meaning of "hotel" is something related to grand and fabulous. However, the hostels which provide simple-decoration rooms in Mongkok are all translated to hotels in English. What an interesting translation! With the sharp background colour of yellow and words in red and the clear message implicated, it definitely draws our attention at once. The English translation for it is "massage". We just wonder what the relationship between these two words is. The billboards of "for room-renting only" are always being seen in Mongkok as well. Yet, we can simply get the message that the rooms are provided to people having sex services.

Portland Street is a street with strong characteristics that demonstrates the night-life of Mongkok.
