Shandy: I mostly speak English and a very little bit Putonghua when buying food here. I was quite lucky that they (hawkers) understand me.

Our customers are of many different nationalities, like Japanese, Koreans, Americans or even Indians. But we only spoke a little English since surprisingly many visitors are able to communicate in Chinese.

I meet lots of Filipinos and Thais every day. Most of them can tell what they want with simple Chinese phrases.

Uncle Tong: Let me tell you, kids. I age 67 but I speak English too. English is important ! You must study it.
